What's New?

We've added a bunch to NCFC this year, from standalone events to new rules, so please give this a read to figure out what's different about this year.

Rules

Our biggest change this year is that we are now allowing third-party games in addition to Nintendo games. Specifically, you can submit a fangame based on any game that was released exclusively or primarily for a Nintendo console. For example, Mega Man Classic or Ninja Gaiden games could be submitted, but not Lemmings games (even though Lemmings was released on the NES and SNES).

If you have a question about whether or not your game is allowed, please contact us.

Participants

A few more sites are participating this year, so let's introduce them!

Kirby's Rainbow Resort is a long-standing Kirby fansite. Started back in 1997, KRR is now one of the largest Kirby sites on the net. Besides serving hordes of fans, the site also contains a respectably-sized fangaming community. We hope to see some good Kirby content from these guys at NCFC this year!

Sprites Inc. is a Mega Man-centric spriting community. Since it appeared years ago, the site has focused primarily on spriting; however, it also has an active fangaming community. Now that we've expanded to allow third-party games, we're glad to have some fresh Mega Man talent onboard for NCFC.

Starmen.Net is the legendary Earthbound fansite responsible for keeping Earthbound in the eyes of the gaming press. In operation since 1999, the community is currently expanding into Fangamer, a site dedicated to gaming communities. We look forward to getting some Earthbound love into NCFC from Starmen's surprisingly active fangame community.

We'd also like to thank our returning sites, Fangamez.net (currently down, but not out!), Gaming Universe, Mario Fan Games Galaxy, Metroid: Fan Mission, Metroid Headquarters, and Zelda Fan Game Central.

Events

Last year's events were hugely successful, so we're throwing more in this year. In addition to last year's events (a minigame competition, a trivia contest, and Radio NCFC), we're throwing in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii competitions! For more information on these, check the Events page.

Registration

Registration is a lot easier than it was last year. Instead of having to manually email us your registration, we have a form provided for you. This includes both hosting booths and workshops. Swing by the Registration page and get entering!

Q&A

We know; last year didn't really count as a Q&A session because the guest was a no-show. This time around, though, we decided to find someone in the game industry to talk about their experience.

We managed to get ahold of John Bergman, the managing director of Guild Software. A small Milwaukee-based company, Guild Software is the ultimate indie success story. Their four-person team successfully created Vendetta Online, a full-fledged space MMO, and assembled a respectably large in-game community. Bergman will be taking your questions about what it's like developing games and working in the gaming industry. Head over to the Ask page and submit your questions!

YOU!

You knew this one was coming. Now that NCFC is an established event, we're looking forward to having even more participants this year. Get to work, guys!
